Mrs. Amanda Otis Johnston, widow of John Johnston, for many years a prominent farmer of Southampton township, died at her home in Shippensburg Tuesday afternoon after an illness of ten days, superinduced by la grippe. Had she lived until June she would been eighty-seven years old. Mrs. Johnston was born in Galway, N.Y., near Saratoga, and was one of a family of eleven daughters and thee sons, the family name being Otis. A sister was married to Rev. Dr. Harper, for thirty years pastor of the Shippensburg Presbyterian church, and in visiting her, she met MR. Johnston whom she afterward married. Mrs. Johnston was a lady of brilliant mental gifts and a member of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Riddle, of Shippensburg, is a surviving sister. Another sister resides in New York State and these two are the only survivors of the once large family. Mrs. Johnston is survived by one step-son, ex-commissioner George V. Johnston, who lives on the home place in Southampton township.
