Elizabeth McFarland Strickland, formerly of West Chester Elizabeth McFarland Strickland, 85, of Kennett Square and formerly of West Chester, died on Friday, Nov. 17, 1995, at Crosslands in Kennett Square. She was the widow of John Strickland. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late George and Linda Barber McFarland. She lived in West Chester most of her life. She was a graduate of the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass. Prior to World War II, she worked as a secretary for DuPont in Delaware. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester. Fond of dogs and the outdoors, she was an avid fox-hunter. She is survived by a sister, Mary McFarland Simpler of Crosslands in Kennett Square; four step-children, Richard Strickland, Joseph Strickland, Mary Irvin and Elizabeth Ring, all of West Chester; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20 at Oaklands Cemetery, Route 100 North, West Chester.
