  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 25 Mar 1885, New York Times. Thomas A. Cummins, one of the first directors of the Equitable Life Insurance Company and on old member of the Union League Club, died at 2.30 o'clock yesterday morning in the Everett House, where he has lived for the past 28 years. He was born at Florida, Orange count, N. Y., in 1814, and came to this city when he was 18 years of age. For six years, he was in the emply of an importing house, when he became on of the firmof Ferguson & Co., dry good dealers, which afterward was known under the style of Collins, Cummins, Seaman & Co. The deceased has been retired from the dry goods business since 1865. He leaves a brother, J. S. L. Cummins, of this city, and a sister, Mrs. J. S. Horton, of Muscatine, Iowa.
