  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 22 Jul 1818, United States Gazette. Goshen, July 14 Melancholy Occurence. -- On Monay, the 6th inst., John Postley Morris Cummins, eldest son of the Rev. Charles Cummins, of Florida, aged 11 year and 8 months, was killed by falling from a cherry tree. During the intermission of school years, he had gone with several of his playmates, a short distance to get cherries. While they were picking them, he had climbed about 15 feet from the ground, when suddenly the limb broke and let him fall. The children gave the alarm, and a young man found him lying under the tree as if asleep. After raising him up he put several questions to him which he answered rationally and walked a few steps, but soon became faint, and lived but two hours. His head was bruised but the skull not fractured. Let this be a warning to parents and guardians to prevent their children from climbing where there is danger. We understand, that this lad was the last branch of an ancient family by the name of Postley; and that had he lived to the age of 21 years, he would have had the disposal of a large estate; but it now devolves on the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, and it is to be appropriated to Missionary purposes.
