  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 26 Apr 1837, Village Record. SHOCKING - a cold-blooded murder was committed in Vincent township, Chester County, on the night of the 14th inst., Mrs. Brownback was widow lady nearly 85 years of age, was found dead in her bed on Sunday morning, with her skull and temples hideously mangled and other parts of her body badly bruised. There can be doubt that avarice impelled the ruthless assassin to the perpetration of the unhallowed deed, as the drawers and chests were rifled of their contents with the exception of about $100, which could not be got at without difficulty. It is supposed the villain obtained from $800 to $1000. Mrs. Brownback was an eccentric but honest woman - one who added to her coffers with scrupulous care, every penny of her gains: she had accumulated considerable cash, and owned some lots. For many years (with the exception of last year), she lived entirely alone. It is supposed that the robber was known to her and the murder was committed to evade a disclosure.
