Early Owner of Sharpless Street Tract is Recalled
A local resident recently inquired concerning Miss Hettie Trimble, who half a century ago owned a large property on the south side of Sharpless street, and extending from High to Church St. where she maintained a nursery for the cultivation for the big city markets of high-grade grapes. For some years, along the High street boundary was a beauteuos osage-orange hedge, that was removed about a half century ago when was erected the row of three-story brick residences, from No. 600 to 614. After the death of Miss Trimble, the property was bought by Mr.a nd Mrs. Isaac G. Reynolds, who constructed a beautiful home with all the modern improvements and conveniences. Miss Trimble was a great-aunt of Mrs. Reynolds, and also Charles and George K. McFarland.
Charles T. McFarland bought a portion of the Trimble property, along South High street, thereon erected a commodious home; after his death the home was occupied for a time by his tow sons and Miss Emily Haas, for several years, after which it was purchased by Mrs. Charles E. Woodward, who made it the home of herself and daughter, Mrs. Florence W. Talbot, both now deceased.
Note - This real estate, with the dwelling containing fourteen rooms, was sold at public sale, on February 2d, for $17,500 to the Bible Presbyterian Church, of West Chester.
